Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux Brut & Fuzzy Socks and Puppy Dogs

Up until now, my studies have been focusing on still wine. Because of this, sparkling wine is very mysterious to me. I was introduced to Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux Brut a few years ago when shopping for wine for New Year’s Eve. It was a memorable wine - dry, yet with a creamy texture with notes of citrus and pear. I decided to treat myself to this sparkling wine again this past holiday season. But this time – I am read up on it. This wine comes from Languedoc-Roussillon, France. It was first brought to America by Thomas Jefferson. It is suspected that Blanquette de Limoux is the oldest sparkling wine in the world – even preceding Champagne by more than a century. In 1531, the Benedictine Monks of the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire were producing Blanquette de Limoux which certainly makes it France's Oldest Sparkling Wine. Knowing all this makes me enjoy this sparkling wine even more. And if you are really looking for what pairs nicely with this wine, pair it with fuzzy socks and puppy dog. Cheers!
