Thanksgiving holiday!  What a great day for a wine adventure!   All the different foods that are prepared for this feast provides an excellent opportunity to serve several different varietals of wine.   If you like white wine, a Chardonnay or Riesling is a nice choice.  If you are a fan of red wine, a Pinot Noir or Zinfandel pairs nicely. Thanksgiving is also an opportunity to serve a sparkling wine. This year my Thanksgiving wine adventure will include some wine choices different than what is traditionally served.

  1. Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages 2017 – Gamay from Beaujolais, Burgundy, France

  2. M. Chapoutier La Combe Pilate 2016 Viognier from Rhone, France

Gamay is a light-bodied red wine and a nice alternative to Pinot Noir.  Because of its fruit characteristics, high acidity and low tannin, Gamay compliments any turkey dinner and stuffing.  It is also a nice sipping wine.

Viognier if a full-bodied white wine and is a nice alternative to Chardonnay.   Unlike Chardonnay, Viognier has more floral and fruit characteristics, such as honeysuckle and peach.  Viognier pairs nicely with turkey but especially with pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes!

For those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving – I hope you have a wonderful holiday! Cheers!
